10 Things to do If You’ve Been Injured an Accident

No matter the severity, a car accident can be a very traumatic experience. Although we understand that standard procedures can’t always be followed based on the seriousness of the injuries sustained, we’ve put together a list of things to do if possible should you find yourself involved in an auto accident.

1.     Quick Medical Assessment

Check for bone breaks, bleeding or bruises. You have just been through a jarring experience, take a few moments to regain your thoughts and composure. Once you have determined that you are okay check the condition of the passengers in your vehicle.

2.     Be Safe!

Make sure that you are aware of your surroundings.  Exiting your vehicle may be dangerous depending on where your accident occurred so pay attention.

3.     Call 911

Report any injuries immediately.  Don’t let the other part talk you out of calling to 911.   Do not make any alternative arrangements to avoid having an official report.

4.     Comfort the Injured

Make a reasonable effort to comfort those who have been injured in the accident. Avoid making statements against your own interest.

5.     Exchange Information

Exchange insurance and license information.  Make sure to get an address, email address, phone number, and even the number of a close relative or friend in case you can’t reach the other party.

6.     Take photographs and video

Most everyone has a phone equipped with a camera.  Use that to take pictures of both vehicles and the surroundings.  Make sure to get things which may show that the other driver was unsafe such as skid marks or damaged railings.

7.     Look for witnesses

If there are witnesses at the scene make sure to take down their information so that they me able to corroborate your story later.

8.     Get the Police Report

Before emergency responders leave the scene, make sure to get a reference number for the police report so you can check the report later

9.     Accept Emergency Care

If paramedics arrive on the scene and advise you to seek emergency services, do it.  Your health is the most important thing so heed their advice.

10.Contact an Attorney
